I saw the great Mark Reifkind post this link this morning, just as I was about to post my blog on the Art of Walking.
Most problems, in my opinion, can be solved by walking.
I’ll never forget when a “fit” girl laughed at me once for wearing a pedometer. Then she described her litany of injuries from her “sports.” I asked her if anyone had ever analyzed her gait, or the way she moves in general. She laughed again and stated she had been to every type of doctor on the planet.
Had none of them told her maybe she should back off on distance running and just WALK?
I walk on average 8-10 miles per day. I have zero injuries. Sometimes I walk hard, like Johnny cash. Other times, I walk calmer. But I assure you this: I walk.
If you feel like running, then SPRINT – following it with walking. Then sprint again.
Park in the back of the lot and walk.
Walk up the stairs and skip the escalator.
Walk between subway cars.
It counts.
