I was on the playground, swinging kettlebells and working fervently on my pull-up.
I used to be one of those girls who stated, “I guess I’m just too heavy to pull my own weight up. I’m a big girl, and I’m not strong. I’ll never be able to do a pull-up.”
Yeah, that bull used to come out of my mouth. Hard to believe, yeah?
As I soldiered up and grabbed the bar, I hung there for a second. As I looked down, two little girls were looking up at me, in full fascination.
They wanted to play, too – but they can’t reach.
I even have to jump to reach the bar, but I can reach it. If I’ve seen hundreds of people pull their weight over the bar, than I should be able to do it, too.
Then I realized this: those kids were quite literally looking up to me. So, I delivered. Then, I helped them to the bar so they could try.
That’s two less girls thinking they can’t do it, because they can’t quite reach – or they’re too big – or they’re just not strong enough…yet.
My measly one dead hang bodyweight pull-up is not impressive to my strong friends. But those girls needed to see that one day, they could do it – just like me.
Someone is watching you. Make sure you deliver. People might be looking up to you.
