The Slow Walk

I used to walk at the speed of light. And you used to see and hear me coming.

One of my chiropractic classmates used to say I had the “million dollar walk of confidence,” which is commonplace in NYC. This walk is confident, fast, heavy, and on a mission to get to a destination.

So, you can imagine how annoyed I used to get when everyone would tell me to slow down -or if my trajectory was halted by a slower person in front of me.

Then, I finally started to listen, instead of just hearing.

The Slow Walk can be an incredible rehab drill to test stability of a narrowed gait.

Now, when I get trapped behind a slow-walker, I Slow Walk. I feel myself use each part of my foot to execute gait. I narrow my stance and demand more of my stability system.

When I start to walk faster again, I feel more anchored – more stable.

After all, faster is not better. Better is better.
