The greatest love I’ve ever known is from an amazing man.
His love runs so deeply that he would give his life for his woman. His forgiveness is an abyss, and his affection unaffected by the wrinkles that accumulate as the years pass.
He plays guitar like Johnny Cash and stands up for people talking smack about those he loves. He sacrifices without excuses and without regrets, in the names of love and family.
This extraordinary man is my father. And the woman he loves is my mother. I am the result of this Love of a Lifetime.
I’ve watched their marriage for 34 of the 46 total years so far, and it’s likely the reason I’ve never been married. Their marriage has been one of commitment and discipline, love and affection, for better and for worse. And it has me jaded. One can’t settle for less than that level of devotion.
It hasn’t been easy, but they haven’t quit. In a world of quitters, they have stuck to their guns and never regretted the vows they took.
I am their daughter. And their love runs deeply – between them and overflowing into the daughter they made.
For every student, patient, reader, or friend I can inspire, it is because of Ma and Pa Dooley.
I’m happy to help.
