I never feel in competition with the people in my field. This can make one a “dangerous” competitor: the fact you don’t feel there is even a competition.
You don’t have to be smarter.
You don’t have to be more talented.
You don’t have to be more beautiful.
I’m living proof.
You need to help more than you need things to be transactional.
You need to make the tough calls and give the real talk.
You need to outwork everyone but fuel it with passion.
You need to live what you do, and not just clock in and out.
What results is that you see your “competitors” raise their standards just to match you.
I will build up my “competitors,” and send them referrals.
I will support those that inspire me, and never feel threatened by them.
Since I will never take insurance, I choose a network of colleagues to whom I can send patients when insurance acceptance is non-negotiable.
After the patients go the insurance route, they may get better. If they don’t get well, they may find you again.
But it’s not a concern. Again, it’s not a competition.
When you decide to provide the kind of care YOU would want – it’s a bill the ones who find you don’t mind paying. Or, people go elsewhere.
When you decide to be the practitioner you sought out to be, the people that find you get help from you.
There is no competition. This is about the people you can help at your chosen standards.
