I get many questions asking how chiropractic works. This is followed by questions about how EVERYTHING works, from supplements, to acupuncture, to muscle testing, to herbs, to correctives.
I love evidence-based care as much as the next guy. I also like reproducible results in an operating system.
But I’ll say this: we are not quite sure why manual therapy, acupuncture, and correctives work. We have hypotheses, and some are tested into theories. Most of the data is inconclusive.
It won’t stop me much.
I choose a career in the trenches. While I appreciate research, I also appreciate results. So, I end up utilizing what produces – and reproduces – results.
So all those naysayers who need constant evidentiary support can keep nay-saying about my manual therapy techniques. Or, they can experience a manual therapist and see results for themselves.
Either way, it won’t stop me.
Research is awesome. Personal experience is also awesome. Evidence-based care is excellent. And some therapeutics that do not yet have solid research are also excellent.
The choice, as always, is yours.
