You Can Change

Sometimes, it takes a simple goal to change.

I find all goals to be pretty simple. My coach Ari Harris says, “Do work.” Do work, and you tend to get your goal. It’s not much more complicated.

For my father to change, it took an oncologist telling him he had to stop his habits to survive.

That – it turns out – will do it.

Knowing far too much anatomy to be comfortable at this point, I have seen my dad’s small cell carcinoma in the lab. It’s aggressive. Vicious.

It grips around everything in its path. For my dad, it’s his left primary bronchus, esophagus, aorta, and pulmonary trunk.

Translation: He can’t breathe, eat, or get circulation to his lungs or extremities.

The positive side is this: people can change.

He is leaving his vices to fight cancer. He will use an E-cigarette, and he will get hydrated. He will eat cleaner and move more. He will do all the things we’ve wanted for him for decades.

But it ultimately had to be his choice. His goal. His change. His life.

Watching him make changes has made me want to make changes, too.

You’ve always been one way? Fine. Change is scary. That’s why people don’t do it. Change also doesn’t guarantee results. And people love a guarantee before buying in.

The journey of the change is where one finds the good stuff. The process IS the result.

So, I hope you change for the better and have a blast in the process.

P.S. We are calling all good vibes/prayers for my dad’s changes.
