The Skinny Jeans

Yesterday, I was spending time with my web designer, whose wife is my incredible friend Melissa Lockwood.

Melissa is a master of organization. On her website, www.lockwoodharmony.com, she helps folks (like me) make their disorganized chaos into livable space.

I mentioned that I gave away the majority of my belongings, including clothes.

Melissa then said something that rocked me.

Melissa: “People hold onto jeans they haven’t worn in years, in the hopes they get back to fitting into them.”

Dooley: “Yeah, I don’t do that.”

Melissa: “GOOD. Trying to be who you were in the past puts you into that same head space you were in at that time. That might not be good. Life is about being right here, right now.”

Dooley: “Like the old pair of skinny jeans, right?”

Melissa: “Exactly! It’s not healthy to feel bad every time you look in your closet. It’s important to feel good where you are right now.”

I’m with Melissa on this one.

Ditch the skinny jeans from high school.

Who you are right now is awesome. If you’d like to improve, start from here. Living in the past or worrying about the future are both wasteful.

Be right here, right now – in whatever jeans you’re wearing.
