The Burn-Out Warning

Dooley Noted: 2/9/2014

I am in my 35th year.

I have enormous energy. It has always been there.

It isn’t my diet, for that has changed many times, from foul junk in youth to low fat to high fat to no carb to my current low key eating pattern. My energy never changed.

It isn’t my method of exercises, since I went from youthful play to nothing to bodybuilding to dance to kettlebells. My energy never changed.

It isn’t the jobs I choose, from pizza delivery girl to theatre actress to chiropractor and educator. My energy never changed.

When you experience 35 years of consistent energy with no real health scares, you hear your share of people telling you this:

“Be careful not to burn out.”

So that I don’t get angered by this statement, I choose to explain why we fireballs are the way we are.

People that warn burnout to energetic people must not understand how we tick.

There is no life without an energetic. purpose-driven life. Our energy is the byproduct of purpose.

We trade mind-numbing television time for breathing drills while reading.

We trade lounging with sloppy posture to living in good posture we’ve earned.

We trade hard partying for consistent sleep – even if its not copious.

We know life doesn’t guarantee us a single extra minute, so we live in the moment, fully self-aware and productive.

I have lived more in 35 years than some people on social security, warning their youth not to burn out. I’ve thrived, not burned out.

I’m convinced the world’s great leaders were all warned about their burn-out potential. Like me, they acknowledged the advice and moved on with their purpose.

After all, some of us are trying to change the world.

If you are telling someone to be careful not to burn out, consider not offering advice that was unsolicited. You might be attempting to slow down a tornado of motivation and purpose. Some of us just work naturally at this intensity.

We appreciate your concern, but we know what we are doing. If we do burn out, you can say you told us so. Until then, consider focusing on your own purpose instead of trying to get in the way of ours.

As always, it’s your call.
