The Cab Driver

The other night, I took a cab home after a long day of practicing and teaching.

I had a lovely conversation with the driver, and we chatted about our jobs and our neighborhoods.

After he dropped me home, I received a call about 30 minutes later.

I had left a bag in the car, and my business card was inside. He called it and offered to bring my bag back to me.

Did I mention I live in New York?

Sajit, the driver, brought the bag to my door with a huge smile. I bullied him into taking a tip that he refused to accept.

He didn’t do it for a tip. He did it because he is an awesome human.

By going out of his way, Sajit showed me how to be a better human. The way I will repay him is to keep that humanity going.

I can do better. I can be more like Sajit.

Start a conversation with the people that provide you service. They just might be more prone to access their humanity.
