The Doubting Days

Dooley Noted: 4/15/2014

We’ve all had days that wake us from a heavy sleep, just to lead us into heavier days.

These days are filled with doubt.

Doubt is dangerous, because it is a self-born condition. We create that heaviness for ourselves.

Doubt is only as real as we make it.

Yesterday, I felt that heaviness. I walked into lab after a restless airplane nap, wondering if all the work even made a difference.

As we dissected away, I realized how much it did.

If I can provide an ounce of comfort to a student, I will do it.

If I can inspire just one patient not to suck in their gut or see himself out of pain, I will do it.

If I can touch one reader and inspire a change, I will do it.

The key is not to deny doubt. Success lies deeper, in one’s ability to recognize doubt and truck forward anyway.

Have your doubts, if you must. But don’t get stuck in the abyss of doubt.

Investigate.

Contemplate.

See yourself out of the doubt and onto a clear directive.

You might find you are more than you ever doubted you could become.

As always, it’s your call.
