My intentions are always good with my patients.
My suggestions come from scientifically supported places, along with experience.
But that does not necessarily make me relatable.
Several times last week, I had patients who found my suggestions to be too difficult.
They had solid reasoning, like the following:
1. They are working full time.
2. They are parents.
3. They are married.
My suggestions are always simple, but that doesn’t equate to them being easy.
My common suggestions include the following:
1. Make breathing a prime focus in your day.
2. Don’t sit longer than 10 minutes.
3. Drink more.
4. Eat with a focused conscience on the task.
5. Get some exercise.
But many people find these things absolutely challenging. Some even ask me how I do it.
I don’t have kids or a husband, so it just be easier for me, right?
No! It’s not easy – but it’s simple.
I have the energy to commit to multiple employers and my own business and training because I make these necessities simpler – not easier.
Some tips to make the simple even simpler:
1. Set alarms in your phone to go off every hour, reminding you to breathe, drink, move, do resets, etc.
2. Elect the people around you as your Posture Police, telling you when you are slouching, sitting, holding your breath,
3. If you love technology, use it. Wear a Jawbone or Fitbit, to track progress and get competitive with yourself.
4. Set goals and make them non-negotiable, like teeth brushing. Tell yourself to be like the great strongman, Slim the Hammer Man, who said: “I’d rather die than break my promise to myself.”
5. Get advice, but don’t outsource your problems too much. You can’t avoid internalizing to see of what stock you’re made. Dig deep, and figure out what’s missing.
Let the excuses fall away. You are the only one you have to live with every moment of your life.
You might want to be good to yourself by making things simpler.
As always, it’s your call.
