No Commitment

I had the honor of visiting Marshall Roy at his gym RISE in King of Prussia.

Marshall proves the quintessential “meathead” is only part of an athlete. Although he is tank of a human, he is one of the smartest, warmest people you will ever meet.

While we were lifting, he spoke of his disappointment with the promises made by many commercial gyms.

“No money down! No commitment!”

He noted how gyms make these claims to lure you into a no-commitment relationship with them. But truly, it means they have no commitment to YOU.

I thought about this throughout my ride home.

I think a large contributor to the success I have with many patients is the professional commitment I make to them.

Many therapists never follow up with their clients via email. Maybe they hand them a pre-printed list of exercises so they feel like they’ve been assigned something.

The truth is this.

Every moment of your life is part of your physical rehabilitation. Please make sure your therapist assesses each of your life’s parts.

And you can hold the therapist accountable to help you live your most capable life.

Your subway or car ride can help you or undo you.

Your committed team must assess it.

Your work environment can eliminate or exacerbate your discomfort.

Your committed team must assess it.

The way you sleep, eat, workout, tie your shoes, walk, sprint, sit, stand are important. They must be assessed.

Demand it.

I’m shocked by how my patients see me last in the chain, yet their lives weren’t usually assessed.

You have committed therapists in your area. You may not have sought this because it’s not yet commonplace.

Maybe you weren’t even aware it is available to you.

I’ll help you find one if you need it. The commitment must match your own for you to skyrocket to success.

As always, it’s your call.
