I have the honor of helping fitness enthusiasts see themselves out of pain.
Many of them come to me with structural changes on imaging.
Supraspinatus tendinitis.
Chondromalacia Patella.
Disc herniation.
Degenerative change.
Most of us have findings on imaging, if we go hunting.
It doesn’t mean we are all in pain.
Sometimes we have a structural setup, and we grease a painful groove.
If you are following a groove that is compromising to its structures, it sometimes lets you know with pain and discomfort.
It doesn’t mean you need to work harder in your groove.
It means you need to alter the groove.
The groove you grease may be compromising the structure, not necessarily the other way around.
If you are pulling the shoulders down and back, question if are you taking the joint away from its center.
If you are doing a push-up with neck pain, question if the neck is away from its center.
With or without structural change, pain is fairly easy to create.
The groove of pain-free movement tends to involve a movement pattern that stays within its center of rotation.
If you have pain while moving, get that movement analyzed.
As always, it’s your call.
