Dooley Noted: 7/6/2014
It had been 12 years since my friends Lee Ditsworth, Shannon Burton and I had been together.
Old friends getting together is always special. Laughing, silliness, and life recaps always ensue. But these two men have shaped my life in ways I can never repay.
Lee tutored me in college physics. He won’t admit it, but he taught me to learn from failure. He also taught me the patience needed when being a teacher, and to let students figure things out for themselves. I not only aced physics but became an educator, due to his inspiration.
Shannon took a 21 year-old, cardio-obsessed Dooley and encouraged her to pick up heavy things. As I watched my body change into a compact version, I understood that no amount of cardio could do for me what weights did.
These two men knew me then, and they know I’m still that lady they shaped. While I can never repay them, they will never take credit.
That’s friendship – the lifelong kind.
If you don’t feel you’re maximizing your potential, please don’t he afraid to reach out to your friends. They may have incredible skills to help you.
Mine sure did – and do!
As always, it’s your call.
