Who’s Crazy

Dooley Noted: 8/1/14

None of you will be surprised that I traveled to Vegas with an 18 kilo kettlebell.

As I lifted it off the baggage carousel, a group of three women commented that it looked heavy.

I smiled and replied, “Nah. It’s about 40 pounds.”

One whispered audibly to the other, “That’s CRAZY, traveling with that.”

This reaction is not foreign. I get the same look at least 10 times from passersby as I travel with a kettlebell.

It’s easy to be judgmental about me packing a kettlebell because it’s weird. And when things are weird, distrust and cynicism ensue.

What they may not realize is that I CHECKED the kettlebell, which means it’s just as heavy as their luggage.

I watched the cynic’s cocked hip and slouched posture, as she guzzled a 20 oz soda to counter the desert heat as she gossiped.

And I know who’s really crazy here.

She’s destroying her insulin sensitivity and drinking something likely not to hydrate her in the desert.

She is not protecting her posture, creating dysfunctions that will show themselves eventually.

And she is gossiping and judging the fitness of a complete stranger, when her luggage weighs as much as my bell.

I don’t care who thinks I’m crazy, because I know the truth.

The more I protect and strengthen my body, the more I can do with it.

I associate that bell with the woman I’ve evolved to become: strong, focused, and dedicated.

Think that’s crazy?

As always, it’s your call.
