I am a chiropractic rehabilitative specialist that doesn’t take insurance.
So, people tend to come to me after they’ve been to everyone else on the health radar.
They are on a last leg, taking one last recommendation for help.
I’ve heard many health practitioners write off chiropractic and acupuncture as placebo.
This is fascinating, since we have the hardest buy-in!
I have no fancy surgical unit. I have no state of the art lasers or tools. I don’t inject the latest steroidal concoction.
I have my brain and my hands.
But my patients get better.
Placebo can’t explain a cynic getting better.
Placebo can’t explain a frustrated, exasperated, irritated person with no buy-in actually improving!
And even if my treatments were solely based on placebo, is placebo absent in other modalities?
You pay a fortune to a surgeon that swears you need surgery, and you’re likely to get better.
The stats of surgical failures aren’t posted on the office walls. But the fancy diplomas and accolades are in full view.
This placebo effect is everywhere -even in the surgical unit.
I’m convinced that expensive surgeries and medications are placebos for many folks.
But I took an oath in 2007 to “first, do no harm.”
I’ve made my decision of how I choose to help my patients and how to be helped as a patient myself.
As always, it’s your call.
