I am obviously no queen of fashion.
But as it turns out, my penchant for flat footwear is showing up on the runway.
During the recent Paris Fashion Week, famous fashion designer Michael Kors caused quite the stir. He suited his models in flowing, comfortable dresses and – gasp! – no heels were to be found.
“If you ask any man what’s sexy, he’ll never say a woman who looks miserable in her dress and can’t walk in her shoes.”
– Michael Kors
I used to be heel-addicted, never wearing flat shoes unless I was in the gym.
Then, those same heels helped me fracture a tiny foot bone, an injury that completely altered my gait and took years to rehabilitate.
I had it coming.
Try walking around for one solid minute on your toes, with all the toes pressed together. Feel what it’s like to force all of your weight into your forefoot.
It’s not a healthy gait. You will absolutely pay a price for it.
If you are determined to wear heels, then make sure you have a movement assessment with assigned correctives to protect your feet.
It’s not just your foot that feels the force. The body takes the force and compensates to keep you moving.
Compensations end up as major movement trade-offs.
Get assessed. Get corrected.
Perhaps become more fashion-forward and give the heels (and feet) a break.
As always, it’s your call.
