One Millimeter

Dooley Noted: 10/15/14

I had the honor of meeting a tremendous NYC Muay Thai fighting coach named Jamie Crowder, who gave his permission to discuss his visit.

This man is more of an athlete than I’m likely to become, yet he humbled himself to allow me to assess his movement.

He was relieved to hear me state I saw no major dysfunction creating his pain.

He was not surprised that I found little movement quirks that were creating his discomfort.

I showed him how to get out of his own discomfort, and he was inspired that he could do that by adjusting just a millimeter of force.

He looked at me with the eyes of a seasoned, skill fighter as he noted the following:

“One millimeter is everything. If you’re off one millimeter on a map, it’s miles and miles.”

He went on to describe his military experience with one millimeter.

“If one is off one millimeter on a map, people can die. I understand the importance of one millimeter.”

As for our bodies, we are highly adaptive – until we are not without discomfort.

The millimeter just may matter.

As always, it’s your call.
