I remember the first time I ever strict pressed a 20-kilo kettlebell.
It seemed like an impossible feat. The fact I saw the goal that way was absolutely pushing me farther from achieving it.
I didn’t even know it, but I would crank out rep after rep of an 18 kilo, then heavily sigh as I picked up the 20.
But my friend and incredible coach Ari Harris caught me.
He said, “Why do you walk up to the bell like it’s work? You don’t even walk up to your work like that! Be Dooley.”
I took his advice. And the impossible became reality as the bell shuttled into the air over my head.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the minutia that we can’t see the simple.
So we need an open ear to those critics who remind us.
In your observations, don’t be afraid to state the obvious.
If they ask, always give those around you a reminder of what may help.
They may have already heard your advice but were in a different head space.
This week, I got to pay back Ari with a reminder of one side dominance away from the kettlebells and toward his daily life.
Even coaches need reminders. We all need them.
Live. Remind and be reminded of what can improve. Repeat.
As always, it’s your call.
