I was once at a kettlebell seminar.
I overheard a seasoned and qualified trainer say the following, with pride:
“I would never be coached by someone who couldn’t lift more than me.”
I was shocked by this judgmental statement.
If one is truly focused on self-improvement, one can learn from anyone that is willing to teach.
Great example of this truth are my business partners.
Jason Kapnick and Joe Boffi are both StrongFirst Level II Giryas, like myself.
They are significantly stronger than I.
They still appreciate my feedback to unlock even more of their strength.
They don’t let ego interfere with confidence that they can benefit from what I have to share.
As Jason often says, “I’ll do whatever you tell me to do if it makes me stronger.”
These beautiful and brilliant beasts are the smartest jocks I know, mostly because they know they don’t know everything.
They don’t throw in my face that I’m a girl, or that I lift less total weight.
They know we are all on a strength journey with no destination.
We will never have enough pure strength. And we will spend our lives learning strength from anyone who can help us.
I hope that seminar fellow learns that.
I hope you do, too.
As always, it’s your call.
