The Lottery Ticket

Dooley Noted: 12/13/14

I don’t go a day without seeing people scratch lottery tickets.

It’s at the deli.

It’s on the subway.

I see some of them win, just to give it right back for more tickets.

I see others lose and aimlessly toss their tickets into the trash.

I get the appeal. It’s fun to win.

I hope every person who plays the lottery does it for fun. But most people do it because they want something they don’t have.

A lottery ticket gives the extreme odds that someone might give it to you.

I got to thinking, though: What if my care were perceived like a lottery ticket?

Choosing your healthcare provider is somewhat like playing the lottery.

You can research the odds before playing.

Most go by word of mouth alone.

People are betting on me to help them.

No one likes to lose.

But during all the searches for a masterful health provider, one can maximize their odds by betting on themselves.

Actually listen to the advice.

Research the suggestions.

Think about what you can do to speed results.

The health provider is the catalyst.

You are the one actually getting it done.

Sometimes you simply need nudges in a direction that helps you become successful.

But you must do the work.

Play to win. Do your part.

As always, it’s your call.
