How to Make Heavy Things Lighter

Dooley Noted: 12/22/14

My mom used to be nervous to pick up heavy things from the ground.

I heard her say things like this:

“It’s too heavy to pick up. I’ll hurt myself.”

And she’s right.

Picking up heavy things without proper biomechanics can absolutely increase one’s chance of injury.

So yesterday, my mother called me to talk about lifting a heavy car battery from the ground.

She remembered what we talked about.

She centered the battery between her feet. She used her hips to hinge backwards and protected her low back.

She was pretty excited about the results.

Mama: I deadlifted that battery!

Dooley: Did it feel heavy?

Mama: It felt like it weighed nothing! It’s because I lifted it the right way.

Deadlifting weight from the ground can be a very safe way to pick up heavy things.

You can make things items much lighter and safer to pick up.

Just use a hip hinge and proper biomechanics.

If you need help, the drdooleynoted YouTube channel has several videos to help you with hip hinging (aka deadlifting).

Keep your body safe, and make lifting heavy items easier!

As always, it’s your call.
