The Outsourcing Agenda

Dooley Noted: 2/28/2015

Yesterday, I attended the first day of the StrongFirst Barbell instructor certification.

Standing next to me was my former patient.

That’s right: former.

I didn’t sell her some bogus package, telling her she needed to come see me three times a week for 2 months and then for the rest of her life.

That might be good business for some, but I’m not going to convince myself – or others – of that load of bull.

I have seen people outsource their pain for years, never internalizing to look for answers within themselves.

They get rubbed, prodded, and injected. They get fancy images, confirming they have altered structures.

This helps people sell outsourcing agendas.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

More often than not, chronic pain is not created by damaged tissues.

It’s created by running a past program of pain. Pain is perceived at the brain, after all.

Karine Anidjar gave me a handful of visits of her valuable time. She did what I recommended, along with seeing an acupuncturist and a trainer.

She made significant efforts on her own to follow through with suggestions made to her.

And yesterday, I noted the absence of shoulder pain as she PRed her barbell military press – twice.

Watching her surprise herself brought me to tears.

She took her pain into her own hands and changed the course of her life. Her recovery through stability and strength saw her doing things she never thought she could do.

She told me yesterday, “My hurt shoulder changed everything. I’m a different person now. I’m thankful that it happened.”

And to think: she could still be on a practitioner’s table every week for the rest of her life, as someone convinces her the shoulder pain will always be there.

She needed more insourcing, and less outsourcing.

And as I stood proudly beside her yesterday, I had all the evidentiary support I’ll ever need of that true statement.

You can buy someone’s agenda. Or you can seek a team that gives you guidance to help yourself out of your discomfort.

As always, it’s your call.
