Full Circle

Dooley Noted: 3/15/2015

Today, we completed NKT Level I in Melbourne, Australia.

On day one, I saw an attendee I recognized, but I couldn’t tell from where.

I asked her, and she said I probably knew her from Active Release Technique (ART).

I was shuttled into a time machine, at the Chicago Upper Extremity ART course I took in 2007.

Immediately, I remembered her impeccable instruction and phenomenal palpation skills.

And I also remembered how that was the course that convinced me to become an anatomist.

I watched the instructors in awe. I was fascinated by their anatomy knowledge and clinical prowess.

I knew I’d never be half the clinicians they were, if I didn’t know anatomy better.

Two months later, I left chiropractic practice behind to enroll in a three-year masters program in anatomy.

Eight years might seem like a long time. But I remember that Chicago ART seminar like it was yesterday as the moment that changed my life.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to return the favor to this brilliant instructor.

I showed her a few ways to help her skills be even more proficient, with different clinical anatomy applications.

She enjoyed NKT, which blends very well with ART.

I was so honored to be able to give back to a community that has given me so much.

As the educational process came full circle, once again I was inspired to learn and to share.

Even if you have much to learn, you always have something to teach.

As always, it’s your call.
