In December, strongman Chris Rider handed me a phone book.
I listened to his technique cues and breathed deeply into my gut.
I saw myself struggle. That’s when doubt started to trick me into thinking I couldn’t do it.
That’s also when the decision is yours.
You can let doubt win, never really knowing your capabilities.
Or, you can move forward and actually see for yourself what feats you can accomplish.
So, I continued doing it.
And the book’s 200 pages yielded to my hands.
Then, it became a 400 page book.
Then 700.
Then 1,100.
Then, I noticed something quite life-altering.
The same 1,100-page book with which I struggled became a one-minute feat executed with relative ease on my second attempt.
As my technique became more efficient, I got stronger.
As my focus and confidence grew, I got stronger.
Strength is not as simple as brute force.
Strength is an elegant exhibition of the laws of physics, matched with the art of learning how to properly apply those laws.
To be strong is to evolve as a human.
And there is no better feeling than surprising yourself as you watch your own evolution.
Rethink the phone book you throw in the recycling bin.
Pick it up. Examine it.
Imagine yourself tearing it.
Then imagine what else you can do in this world before you leave it.
As always, it’s your call.
