The Down Talk

Dooley Noted: 4/3/15

Yesterday, I had a patient get stuck in her rolling pattern.

As she struggled to roll herself over, she said the words that kept her stuck:

“I can’t do it.”

Her motor control center believed this fallacy.

I have zero tolerance for the Down Talk, when one talks trash about oneself as self-sabotage ruins the potential of goal achievement.

I told her it was okay if she got stuck. She could simply breathe in the sticking point without words.

On the next attempt, she got stuck in the same place. She struggled but breathed as I instructed. A few seconds later, she rolled over.

What Henry Ford said was right. “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

This is true in movement and true in every other facet of life.

Your brain is listening. Cut the Down Talk, or you’ll make the fallacies true.

I believe I can do absolutely anything I want. And I believe you can, too.

I surround myself with people that let nothing stop them. And we never let each other fall victim to Down Talk.

Since the crib, I’ve had a best friend, Jill, that would never let me sabotage myself with the Down Talk.

There were times when I let myself believe I couldn’t do things.

Jill would cut into that doubt like a knife. She found Down Talk unacceptable.

Now, I pay her back by teaching people all over the world to be intolerant of Down Talk.

You may be at a sticking point, but you are not stuck.

You can absolutely get to your goal.

If your goal doesn’t work out, you may change your mind about it.

But it doesn’t change your ability to reach for it without Down Talk.

My patients, my students – my all around company have Jill to thank for anything I’ve helped them achieve.

As a birthday present to her, I hope you all will wish her an amazing day in this feed.

Let’s give her some Up Talk and show her how thankful we are that she wouldn’t tolerate my Down Talk.

As always, it’s your call.
