For some people it is not enough just to get strong.
They need to give strength to someone else.
This happens every day at Catalyst SPORT.
But Wednesday, the gift of strength was big enough to shock me.
My business partner, Jason Kapnick, is an elite powerlifter.
Training for meets is a huge focal point of his life.
Training never takes a back seat, and he approaches it with utmost diligence.
Even though he is a busy man and CFO of our company, he encourages others to compete and impress themselves.
Last week, he got very busy and missed sending a registration link to two of our athletes.
Only one spot was available for the three of them.
Jason could have taken the spot and let the beginners sign up for the next meet.
After all, he would likely win the meet – like he wins every meet these days.
Instead, he offered the spot to one of the other athletes he helps train.
He felt terrible that he had dropped the ball – like all humans do.
But Jason doesn’t just strive to be strong. He wants to give the gift of strength to others.
It turns out the registrar let all three of them into the meet after all.
But Jason was absolutely ready to give that spot – after all the dedication, the structure, the programming, the dietary timing, the effort.
When I asked him why he didn’t take the spot himself, he shrugged and said, “I want to be a catalyst. I’ve done meets. They haven’t.”
I’m not just proud of his strength accomplishments.
I am proud to run a business with Joe Boffi and him.
These two men lead by example and know that “Catalyst” is not just a name of our business.
“Catalyst” describes the life we lead – helping others to catalyze their results.
You can train to be strong for yourself.
But you can also give the gift of strength you know exists in all of us.
As always, it’s your call.
