This morning, I walked over to my hotel window. I watched as Niagara Falls sprayed its mist and crashed its waters 30 stories below me.
I was overcome with gratitude for some of my life’s current choices.
I had just completed an amazing weekend, introducing our anatomy course in Canada. We had formed a seminar on our own terms, and we worked night and day to make sure that it was good quality work.
But I felt even more proud that I wasn’t making myself feel guilty for taking Monday off.
As I watched the water’s cascading power, I was reminded that you do the good work to enjoy the fall.
In the past few months, I have not been dedicating much time to having a personal life.
I had even convinced myself that I might not necessarily need one!
While I want so much to help the world learn functional anatomy, I most certainly want to enjoy these peaceful moments of reflection, particularly with my friends.
As I had one of the best weekends of my life, I realized it was such a stand-out because it mixed professional success with personal time.
Our seminar team isn’t just a group of people with whom I want to teach.
They make me laugh so deep into the gut, and we experience a world of fun when we travel to teach.
And, spending time with my friends afterwards made me feel I was working toward a keener life balance.
Then, taking a day to reflect, regenerate, and reboot made me realize what it takes to feel this way more often.
Do the work. Like the water, use your forces.
But enjoy the fall without rushing too much to the ground.
As always, it’s your call.
