Lost

This past weekend, I had the honor of lead instructing NeuroKinetic Therapy I in St. Louis.

Sitting front row center was a fitness instructor, who admitted to needing a couple of extra steps and pauses to understand the dense material.

So I had to do what any good instructor would do. I had to put her on the spot.

Since patients and clients tend to be pretty demanding, I wanted to help her think quickly and clearly.

I watched her struggle to explain the connection we had made. I wanted her to describe it to me as she would describe the findings to a client.

As she started to get a bit frustrated, she whispered, “I’m lost.”

I think this is such a brave admission. It’s a request for help to get back on the right track.

But it also can be used to dismiss responsibility for attacking material and really understanding it.

This student had no intention of doing that, and she was very willing to let the class and I guide her through the protocol.

A few minutes later, she was giving the protocol back to us with a solid understanding. The class cheered for her.

It’s so easy to let oneself get lost and frustrated.

What builds character and wisdom is asking for help to get back on the right track.

Sometimes you can do it for yourself.

Other times, you may have to request help.

I hope you were like the seminar attendee, who didn’t give up.

Attack your goals.

If you get lost, get back on track.

Help is there.

As always, it’s your call.
