I’ll admit it: I am inherently selfish.
I have to work hard to bring forth selfless love.
It’s a beautiful thing, when you can put your own wants aside for the needs of someone else.
While it is important to have your own needs met, there must be more to life than satisfying basic needs.
Why else did we evolve?
I’m fascinated by the concept of selfless love, so I challenge myself to give it as often as I can.
I want more from my life than to just to get what I want.
But to be selfless is scary – which is why many people don’t do it.
To be selfless is to see behind the smiles and the defenses – to accept the offer when approached for help.
For, behind the smiles and the defenses are people who need you.
Behind the hubris and the doubt are people whose lives will change because of your love.
It’s so easy to give up on people.
After all, people are inherently selfish.
But what if you were able to forgive that selfishness, in exchange for your offer of selfless love?
Would it help the person?
Absolutely.
But more importantly – it would help you.
Because you, too, are inherently selfish.
And to give selfless love is a step towards your own evolution.
As always, it’s your call.
