People Who’ve Changed Me: Part 41

Dooley Noted: 9/24/2015

The Person: Chris Rider

His Profession: performing strongman, strength coach, strongman seminar instructor

How I met him:

I met Chris through Eric Moss his first New England-based Coney Island Strongmsn seminar.

He taught me how to rip phone books, tear cards, and bend steel with my bare hands. The power of accomplishment made the seminar one of the best days of my life.

 How he’s changed me:
As my distance strength coach, he helped me rip through a deck of cards and blow up a hot water balloon until it exploded.

Chris has ultimate confidence in his students, even when they attempt to talk themselves out of skill development.

Chris has a tender but tenacious coaching style, and he’s taught me the importance of believing in my students.

Chris also attributes the help of a chiropractor to aiding him in his back recovery, after he was told he would never lift again.

Chris called the orthopedic surgeon’s bluff, and years later he is still lifting weights and bending steel, sometimes with his hair!

Chris, or “Haircules,” is coming to Catalyst SPORT to teach his seminar on Oct 11!
