Today, I treated patients early.
I trained.
I walked an hour to the Cornell Med dissection lab.
I helped students explore the superior and inferior mediastina.
I walked an hour back, with meetings in my ear.
I treated more patients.
And as I arrived on the subway train, I opened an email that changed my life.
A super brilliant L.A. trainer took the time to tell me I was the most inspirational woman he’s ever known.
He wrote how I catalyzed his career and current goal set.
And that is when I realized that people around me weren’t just inspiring me every day.
It went both ways.
I had hit a period in my life of feeling distraught.
I was afraid I wasn’t helping enough people or doing enough to facilitate my colleagues.
I found myself focusing on people who didn’t strive to communicate with me – as if that was a reflection of my worth.
I wasted time fretting I was losing my reach.
And one email can take all those feelings and show me they aren’t facts.
If you strive to inspire, you will.
If you strive to be inspired, they will.
It’s easy to get stuck on the things you don’t have.
Don’t shirk the good you do for the ways you fail.
Turn that weakness into strength.
Someone is watching you.
Maybe it’s a dynamic trainer in California.
Maybe it’s a family member.
Maybe it’s someone you don’t even know.
But somebody is watching.
Change a life to change your own life.
As always, it’s your call.
