What You Prioritize

Dooley Noted: 9/28/2015
Saying that you’re busy is a complete illusion.
This morning, I started my day early.
I had a patient at a private facility, and then I raced over to Catalyst SPORT to treat the rest of my patients.
I then raced to Cornell Medical to help in the lab.
I switched badges and raced to NYU to teach another set of labs.
I’m writing this with voice dictation, as I race from one place to another.
I am high on life, doing what I love.
I texted four people and answered emails as as a prepared patient files on the subway.
And when I get home tonight, I will lift weights and contemplate how much fun my day was.
I’m living proof that you do what you prioritize.
There will always be an excuse of being too busy, because your time is valuable.
Of course you are busy. You’re always busy, because your time is precious.
As I race to the next employer, I realize my dedication to my reading audience.
I’m here to remind you that if time doesn’t exist, you can create it.
Time isn’t linear anyway.
You have the time to do the things that you prioritize.
You don’t have to follow anyone’s norms.
You live the life you create for yourself.
My current life involves racing between multiple places to do the things I adore.
I want it all, so I take it all.
I still manage to stay in touch with the people I care about.
And, I can still do excellent work at each place.
What I don’t do is tell anyone that I’m too busy.
You will never hear those words uttered from me.
I prioritize how I see fit, and that can easily change.
If you are using excuses that you are too busy, no one should believe you.
Your listeners should know that you are making a choice.
And if someone is not prioritizing you, don’t take offense. Just realize they made a choice not to prioritize you like you prioritize them.
And maybe, you need to reprioritize.
No judgment.
Prioritization is not about being busy. It’s about making a choice.
As always, it’s your call.
