Make My Day

Dooley Noted: 10/7/2015

Last night, I had a beautiful conversation with my mother.

She was recounting how much she liked her job as a cashier at Walgreens.

If that sounds like a typical, un-sexy job, then you’re doing life wrong.

We Dooley’s make whatever we do an event.

Mom was recounting how a 93 year-old woman was at her counter, and she had trouble finding her credit card.

As the line grew behind the lady, Mom called for help to open another cashier.

The lady apologized for being so slow, and Mom told her not to worry at all.
Mom told her to just focus on that card and the line would be taken care of by her colleague.

The lady found her card and was in near tears.

She said, “Thank you so much. You made my day. No one ever seems to care about old people like me. We are so slow.”

Mom said she hoped she got to live as long as the lady. The lady made my mom’s day right back when she called her a “young thing.”

Whether we work at Walgreens or a NYC clinic, we Dooleys are trying every day, all day to make someone’s day better.

Think of the last time you made someone’s day.

If you have to think longer than a few seconds, then maybe it’s time to make someone day today.

People around you need it.

As always, it’s your call.
