I am currently teaching anatomy 5 days a week between 3 different schools.
I spend most of my weekends teaching seminar courses.
I spend the rest of the weekends taking courses or improving my skill sets.
So, I thought it was ironic when the New York State Office of Professions audited me, asking for proof I had completed my minimum continuing education requirements for my chiropractic license.
I started gathering my hours, and I had completed about 50 hours in 3 years of which they approved.
The rest were hundreds and hundreds of hours spent on certifications and seminars that I didn’t bother petitioning for credit.
I wanted to learn to be stronger, so I could teach my patients to be stronger.
I wanted to take classes that interested and intrigued me to learn more about the human body.
These certifications don’t hang on my wall.
I took them to fall even more in love with what I do.
When someone asks me if the courses I teach offer continuing education credits, I’m inclined to walk away.
If you don’t want to take my course, don’t take it.
I’m not here to convince someone otherwise.
I also don’t want to attract people to my courses who are taking it for credit – and not because they really want to learn it.
That’s not my idea of an education.
So, take one of my courses if you are compelled to do so. I can’t wait to teach and learn from you.
Petition your licensing board if you want credit.
Otherwise, I hope you do what you have to do to keep your licenses valid.
In the meantime, I hope you take courses that resonate with you. Take all that your finances and time can afford you.
Never stop learning.
As always, it’s your call.
