Breakups are never easy – especially when they are a few days before your favorite holiday.
He is a wonderful human, and my love for him had burrowed through me.
So when it ends, you feel physical pain and enormous loss.
After all, you never know how much something matters to you until you lose it.
So, how do you cope?
How do you hold your head up high?
You practice gratefulness.
In difficult times, you’ll have to dig deep through that mud to see all you have.
But if you practice, you get great at it.
I’m so grateful I got to share that time with him. So much living can happen in 6 months.
I’m grateful he didn’t stay where he couldn’t be.
I’m grateful for my wonderful jobs that will remind me I have great things to do in the world.
I’m grateful for my beautiful friends and family, who have seen me through 20+ years of breakups and encouraged me to never give up the good fight.
And I’m even grateful for this breakup, since it showed me I could love again.
You can drown in your sorrow. Everyone would understand.
Or you can bounce off the buoyancy gratefulness provides, to move forward with a less heavy heart.
As always, it’s your call.
