Holiday Training

Dooley Noted: 12/23/2015

The gifts are all wrapped.
The food is all cooked.
A severe thunderstorm warning is brewing.
As I drive to the gym, I don’t go there with the thought that I’m exercising as a compromise or bargain.
My training goals pull me there without a second thought.
Once your goals are ingrained into your system, training for them becomes as consistent as teeth-brushing.
Training is not to be used as an excuse to overeat or under-eat.
Training is not to be forsaken because it’s the holidays.
When training becomes a fiber of your being, there is no permissible excuse to miss it.
Every minute of every training session, I feel stronger than the minute before.
As my body changes shape, my mind is altering, too.
I feel the clock of time reversing, as I become stronger and healthier than any of the minutes I’ve spent in my life prior to this one.
The people that care about me may never understand the beauty that comes from the discipline.
They don’t have to understand.
But they will be the grand recipients of my focus, my attention, and my strength.
A wise person once said what’s on my wallpaper, something I see every day, multiple times a day:
“I’d much rather suffer the pain of discipline than suffer the pain of regret.”
Bring on the discipline.
I hope you find discipline towards your goals to be one of the great gifts you give yourself this holiday season.
As always, it’s your call.
