The Christmas Gifts

Dooley Noted: 12/25/2015

This holiday season has been emotional, relaxing, and full of enormous gifts.

And I don’t mean stuff.

People can have their stuff, if it suits them.

I got these gifts.

1. I got to spend the first Christmas in years with both sisters, my parents, and their families – in person. FaceTime is great and all, but it will never equate to seeing their smiling faces across from me in the same room.

2. I learned a major lesson that the only love I’ll ever need is right there inside myself.

3. I made a new friend with whom I’ve bonded so strongly in a week that it’s hard to remember life before him.

4. I got to see sweet Abigail’s eyes light up when she saw Santa had eaten her cookies. That’s Heaven on Earth right there.

5. I got San Diego weather not only in San Diego, but also in Indiana for the Christmas season.

6. I received beautiful emails of thanks, not only from patients and students but from blog readers. You keep the fire burning, folks.

7. I sang alongside my dad, as he couldn’t keep composure when I busted out my Elvis rendition.

8. I spent beautiful time with two of my oldest friends, with vodka shots and “exploding kittens.” B and Jilly-Bo, you are the most fun people I know.

9. I got to road trip to Kentucky with my big sister and her husband, having great conversation and telling fun stories.

10. I gave back to my mentor, who drove his girlfriend and himself three hours to get my insight on her symptoms.

All the gifts I received were of utmost value – but could not be held by anything but my memory.

I wish you as much happiness as I’m holding right now on this amazing Christmas.

As always, it’s your call.
