People Who’ve Changed Me: Part 62

Dooley Noted: 2/24/2016

The Person: Dr. Patrick Montgomery

His profession: Doctor of chiropractic, professor at Logan College of Chiropractic

How I met him:

In Jan 2004, I was enrolled as a student in Chiropractic Philosophy and Logan Basic Technique, two classes which Dr. Montgomery taught.

He would continue to change my life by leading through example, not only in his professional life but also his family life.

Dr. Montgomery gave up beautiful year-round weather and a very busy, successful chiropractic practice to bring his family closer together in Saint Louis, MO.

I was one of the thousands of lucky students he would inspire through his flawless palpation, impeccable clinical eye, and well-rounded medical knowledge.

How he has changed me:

Dr. Montgomery taught me early in my career of the importance of knowing anatomy. He would speak of his father, who had Gray’s Anatomy memorized to the point of remembering page numbers! This is no easy feat in a 1,500 + page, 7-point font tome.

Dr. Montgomery is a large, impeccably strong and healthy man – yet his palpation and adjustments are as light as air. He taught me the importance of a gentle hand and key coach’s eye – and how to marry them.

Through being treated by him for migraine, I learned the connection of sacral positioning to cranial positioning. Oftentimes, the cranium becomes too large the focus while its effects on the entire center of mass get ignored.

Dr. Montgomery is also a brilliant acupuncturist, combining his impeccable chiropractic skills with his acupuncture meridian therapy.

Few doctors on this planet can match his efficacy as a therapist, philosopher, and educator. I am honored and privileged to have been under his tutelage.
