Anger for Fuel

Dooley Noted: 4/4/2016

Last week, I heard my share of ridiculous medical suggestions made to desperate patients.

I saw a case of pelvic floor dysfunction, for which the Cleveland Clinic suggested spinal and pelvic floor surgical implantation. But they never bothered to assess the man’s intraabdominal pressure-building.

I saw a case of repetitive air-casting for ankle inversion sprains, just to follow up with suggestions on orthotics to stick the patient in unending supination.

I found myself angry, doing the dirty work of explaining the biomechanics that were never explained to the patient before the treatment decisions were made for them.

And the angrier I got, the more I knew the anger was simply fuel.

My passion for education fueled me to do the work that others were failing to do.

I’m considered an alternative therapist.

That makes me angry, too.

But if I offer alternative advice, I’m glad to do it for my patient.

You may see me last, but you’ll wish you’d seen me first.

My colleagues in movement know the importance of proper biomechanics.

We also know we may be called quacks – as others only offer crystal ball theories and ridiculous surgical interventions.

So, continue to fuel us.

We are still studying night and day to undo what you are doing.

The anger will not stagnate us.

It only fuels the mission to educate, inspire, and offer relief to those who haven’t been taught to help themselves.

And if enough of us get fueled, we can’t be ignored.

As always, it’s your call.
