Last week, I made a mistake.
And I did a fair job digging though the mud to try to find clarity in what I’d done.
I didn’t beat myself down.
I’ve learned long ago that just leaves me in a puddle on the floor.
At some point, you must move.
My fiancé Jonathan calls this “moving through perfection.”
A man of carefully chosen words, he speaks succinctly and with purpose.
He said to me, “Kathy, you’re already perfect. You’re just moving through perfection.”
He pointed out things in nature.
He noted that they were already perfect.
But to grow, sometimes one must be dug up in order to thrive.
I thought of my mother, digging up the soil of her flowers so they could get fresh nutrients.
I thought of my dad, digging his garden year after year to replant and grow the best garden in all of Haubstadt.
It’s natural to dig yourself up and breathe new life into yourself.
Mistakes don’t make you less perfect.
You’re already perfect.
It’s hard to feel that, when the only feeling you have is that you screwed up.
But feelings aren’t facts.
And the truth is that you are already perfect.
Don’t be afraid to dig in times of struggle to move right through that perfection and grow into it.
As Jonathan says, “You’re already perfect. You were put on this earth to spend most of your time trying to realize that you were perfect all along.”
You can chase perfection, beating yourself down when you make mistakes.
Or, you can move through perfection, digging through the mud to find your self again.
As always, it’s your call.
