Narrow Roads

Dooley Noted: 4/30/2016

Today, I drove on very narrow rain forest roads.

This was particularly challenging, since I was also driving on the left side of the road here in Grenada.

What I love about driving here is that you can’t get distracted…even for a second.

Text messaging? Please.

Messing with the radio? No way.

The roads are barely as wide as one car length in most of the country.

And there are no shoulders – so error means a 100-foot drop-off in several areas!

Every curve and massive hill make you feel like you are moving blindly.

You drive competitively with oncoming traffic – or they will halt you.

And very few road signs, including stop signs, are present.

Stop lights? No way.

You get attentive and aggressive yet driving well-below the speed limit (not that it’s posted).

I felt like I was in driver’s education class again.

Only, errors didn’t equate to a bad grade but the probability of an accident!

As we arrived to our destination, I checked my pulse – and made sure my Jonathan was okay!

We drove into the rain forest to find beautiful waterfalls that we’d have missed – had we not taken the chance to find them.

Life’s greatest rewards require you to take narrow, dodgy roads where you have to look alive.

I hope you take every single dodgy road.

I hope you buckle up and move carefully and tenaciously towards the things you want to achieve.

I hope you use all the skills you’ve banked, so you can move cautiously and diligently toward your goals.

And once you’re there, I hope you enjoy the view.

As always, it’s your call.
