The Currency

Dooley Noted: 5/8/2016

Two days before our wedding, I lost my purse with all of our cash and my passport.

It was a stressor that created a mental environment, leaving me prone to beatdown.

I was very tough on myself, feeling I had made such an inconceivable mistake.

But my husband acted as a true partner, helping me retrace every step and overturn every stone to find it.

He encouraged my new family, the Fernandez clan, to also look everywhere and keep their eyes peeled.

As I lost hope of finding it, I started to let go of the idea it would turn up.
Then today, Jonathan’s lovely cousin Brandon saw a Facebook post with my ID.

Someone had found my purse – in a trash can at a car wash. It still maintained its contents, minus the cash.

It was in that moment that I realized the true currency was not stolen.

I had gained a family yesterday.

And they had my back.

Money may come and go.

But family is forever.

I am so proud today to call myself a Fernandez.

And I’m so glad that I now have two strong families that got to meet and share in their love for us as a new couple.

I hope you, too, can see the currency you can gain when you experience material loss.

As always, it’s your call.
