The Doorstep

Dooley Noted: 5/17/2016

Sometimes, in life, all you have to do is show up.

Two days before I met my husband, I was in heartbreak hell.

I was considering not showing up for my commitment to meet this man who could bend pennies with his fingers and quarters with his teeth.

But a trusted friend told me to hold true to my commitment.

He told me to show up.

I made the flight where I was unwelcome by one love, in a final act of showing my integrity.

As I stepped onto my husband’s doorstep, he answered with all the kindness and warmth a human can offer – plus a dog and a cat.

He said it was like opening the door to an angel standing at it.

He had dreamed of my exact image for years. And there I was at his doorstep, arriving like he ordered me from Amazon prime.

Had either of us canceled the appointment, we would not have begun the greatest journey of our lives.

And all it took was showing up at someone’s doorstep, even in your darkest of times.

Every day, I hope you choose to show up.

I hope you remember why you made the commitment in the first place.

I hope you let nothing distract you.

Behind the door may be someone who changes your life.

As always, it’s your call.
