Today, we completed our first ever Immaculate Dissection I: Core Concepts seminar on the West Coast.
The group of students included many professions from Pilates instructors, to manual therapists, to trainers.
We were amazed to see that half of the class were personal trainers, since many training programs stiff their students out of functional anatomy education.
The attendees were devoted and attentive, focusing on a tough subject matter with clinical pearls that are often overlooked.
As we put the anatomy knowledge into our bodies, we palpated for important landmarks and looked for insufficiencies in the building of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP).
If the students were overwhelmed, they really didn’t show it much! And if they were hiding it, they know the entire seminar is on Vimeo just for them to access later.
We discussed the differences between intrinsic and extrinsic abdominal musculature, and how these muscles help us with force transfer from the abdomen into the limbs.
We talked about common patterns of insufficiencies, while providing assessments and corrections for these dysfunctions.
The amazing Danny Quirk showed his body art and demonstrated a simulated dissection of the thoracolumbar fascia on our amazing instructor, Dr. Anna Folckomer.
It was such a thrill to see the brilliant students look at anatomy in a whole new way.
The feedback was wonderfully positive, and we can’t wait to come back to California for level two very soon!
