The Person: Aaron Braun

Profession: lighting expert
How I know him:
Aaron is my first cousin, the son of my mom’s oldest brother
How he changed me:
I never had children in my family that were my age. Although Aaron was older than I, he treated me with respect and helped me realize I had intelligence to harness.
At family gatherings, Aaron would quiz me on vocabulary, encouraging me to spell challenging words. He’d then ask me to use them in sentences.
As a theater major in college, I received my share of backlash for my choice of study. But Aaron was a graduate of one of the best theater programs in the nation. So, he offered me his full support when few people would do the same.
My theater training was integral in preparing me to speak in front of hundreds without qualms. Aaron understood the benefits of the theater programs, even if one chose to one day take life in a different direction.
Throughout my career, Aaron has reached out to me as one of my biggest supporters. He has shown me the true meaning of family.
Had I the choice, I would have picked him as my family a million times over.
I owe him a lifetime of gratitude, and I can never repay him for his encouragement that fueled me forward on my career and personal journeys.
Honor and acknowledge the people who change you.
As always, it’s your call.
