When You Do For Others

Dooley Noted: 6/10/2016

I have been told from a very young age to do well by others.

Somewhere along the way, I heard, “Do for others.”

Whenever they did not return my devotion, I was left with overwhelming disappointment.

Then I realized after college that I needed to do well by others because it made ME feel good.

I tapped into an endless sea of devotion.

Now, when I study hard to understand diagnoses, I do it for myself – so I can understand for me.

When I take endless patient notes and create detailed synopses for patients, it doesn’t matter if they never read them. I do it so I can learn.

When I film videos with specific cues for my patients, it doesn’t matter if they never watch them. I know I’ve done my best to show my commitment to their compliance.

Do great work for yourself.

Expect no return on your investment by other people.

Expect fulfillment within yourself, and the people you can truly help will gravitate to you.

Or, you can do only for others, becoming more disappointed by the day when their commitments don’t match yours.

As always, it’s your call.
