The Body Software

Dooley Noted: 7/2/2016

Every day, patients come to me for help with their painful movements.

Many feel as if their bodies have betrayed them.

But the body has done nothing wrong.

It’s running old software.

It’s simple, really.

The system experienced an interruption in service, and the body found a way to compensate for the interruption.

Without an update in the software, the body continues to run the old one.

After all, it was the path of least resistance.

It was a functional dysfunction, working well until it didn’t anymore.
There’s no need to talk smack about your body.

It has not deceived you.

In fact, it’s been quite clever, attempting to create a pathway around an issue.

But when you rob one area to pay another area, the compensation results. Dysfunction is bound to show up at one time or another.

Sometimes you need an objective source to help you update the body software.

Often times, the area of the pain is only a symptom for dysfunction that lays somewhere deeper in the system.

More times than not, the dysfunction is a place that doesn’t even hurt.

It pays to think like the amazing Dr. Karel Lewit, who offered my favorite quote:

“He who treats the site of pain is lost.”

You are not broken.

And your body has not deceived you.
If your therapist is only treating the site of pain, he or she may be lost.

Find someone to look at the entire system, to get to the root of the issue.

The entire system may need a body software update.

As always, it’s your call.
