I’ve been writing these posts daily for 5.5 years.
I’ve never failed to post one since January 1, 2011.
It doesn’t matter how tired, weary, or busy I am that day.
I write – because I promised myself I would.
And in the words of Slim the Hammer Man, “I’d rather die than break my word to myself.”
I pour a bit of my soul into each one, regardless if anyone reads it.
And when they do, it fascinates me how quickly readers point out a grammar mistake.
It recently got me thinking: Why do people get distracted from content by a mere grammatical error?
And I think I have it figured out.
Introspection is challenging.
Change is challenging.
It’s much easier to get distracted by a grammatical error than to stay focused on a viewpoint – especially if it requires challenging a current belief system.
Advertisers throw in grammatical errors just to get your attention.
And it works.
So, I challenge you with this daily meditation.
The next time you see a grammatical error, try to stay focused on the point being made by the writer.
Challenge yourself not to comment on the grammar.
Challenge yourself to keep your mind on the reason why you were reading the article in the first place.
You may find your less distractible in other areas of your life.
As always, it’s your call.
